Homemade jewellery cleaner

This technique works for gold-filled, brass, nickel and silver jewellery.

You will need
1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp baking soda, 1 tbsp washing up liquid, 1 cup of water, aluminium foil

  1. Heat the water in the microwave for one or two minutes
  2. Cover the bottom of a small bowl with aluminium foil
  3. Pour the hot water into the bowl, add the salt, baking soda and washing up liquid into the bowl. Place the jewellery on top of the foil and let it soak in the solution for 10 minutes
  4. Rinse in cool water and let dry before wearing

Cleaning management for working families

  • Clean as you go - cleaning the entire house is not always an option, so try cleaning as you move around!
  • Use less carpeting and hard-to-manage surfaces in the home - hardwood and laminate floors are a great solution as they are easy to clean and mop up if there is any mess
  • Make kids part of the 'Clean House Crew' - if your children are old enough, provide them with regular chores and try to make them fun, combining cleaning with spending quality time together
  • Hire a professional cleaner on a part-time basis - if you can't afford a full-time cleaner, consider someone on a part-time basis to help with your home
